Our Family Tree



	Luckily Feetham is an uncommon name, so making assumptions about names and relationships is made easier. The further back in time you go, the more difficult it becomes to trace your tree. When faced with uncertainty, the approach Sue and I adopted, was to weigh up the balance of probabilities, based on Proximity, Dates, Historical Context and Likely Ages. In those areas where few Feethams lived, this is a reasonable thing to do. But in an area such as Methwold, where there were lots of Feethams, identifying relationships becomes less certain. Never-the-less, the balance of probabilities is still the best tool to use. When we first started this project, we interviewed relatives to get us going. We also searched various sites on the Internet. The Mormon site gave us a lot to look at, but taught us a valuable lesson: You must validate second hand information from the original sources. The Mormon site is a fabulous resource, but has mistakes in it. Nearly all that we’ve published here comes straight from the Parish registers, or the Family Records Centre in London, and the Records office in Kew. We capture information from any source that presents itself, but where possible, we cross check against original sources.
